Csx2210 was originally delivered to joe brown ford in louisville, kentucky as a red over black street specification 289 cobra roadster. Upon delivery to original owner john winemiller, an active serviceman, the car was autocrossed nearly from the day it was purchased. As winemiller traveled extensively while in the military, he spent a substantial amount of time in phoenix where he became acquainted with don roberts, one of the most well-known and accomplished cobra racers of his time. Through winemiller’s relationship with roberts, it was soon revealed that roberts had purchased a number of special xe136505 specification race engines from carroll shelby and lew spencer’s hi-performance motors upon their closing in 1967.  these xe 289s were unique in that they were mainly used in gt40s as well as shelby american’s sedan/trans am race cars. These special engines featured 4 bolt mains, a windage tray, and push in freeze plugs similar to a boss 302 block. These xe engines also ran c6fe gt40 heads topped by either webers (gt40) or a single 4 barrel (sedan racers).  knowing that winemiller wanted the best drivetrain obtainable for csx2210, roberts rebuilt one of those engines, topped it with a gt40 weber intake, and installed the drivetrain into winmiller’s cobra. This special race engine remains with the car to this day in that same form. In the mid 1970s, winemiller passed away and csx2210 was inherited by his son, jake winemiller.  shortly thereafter, in 1982, csx2210 was purchased by harry campbell of grain valley, mo who retains ownership of the car to this day. Campbell’s acquisition, he set about continuing to do what carroll intended to be done with all cobras. Harry would go onto race the car for 3 years in groups such as svra, vara, and rmvr at venues including hallett, steamboat, road america, pueblo, the folly grand prix in kansas city, and wentzville. In 1985, campbell delivered csx2210 to master restorer bill murray of longmont, colorado for conversion to fia cutback door specification. Csx2210 is a documented three owner car which can be driven and enjoyed on the road while also being more than capable of participating at vintage racing venues the world over. Furthermore, csx2210 is unique in that it remains highly structurally original. Unlike many cobras which are only converted to competition spec after suffering severe accident damage, 2210 has not been involved in any major accident and retains substantially all of its original chassis, substructure, and a great deal of its original body work as supplied from ac cars to shelby american in 1964.  csx2210 is accompanied by its original chassis instruction manual along with an extensive history file documenting the car’s life.
